Hiya All,
As some of you know for the past few weeks i have been doing lots of work updating the back bone of MGA (back bone = the stuff it all runs from and the network thast connects it all).
MGA is moving from a physical enviroment to a virtual one with SAN storage.
This weekend (14 & 15th of aug 2010) i will start the migration of srvices to the virtual machines, as of right now the web sites are all ready running form the VMs.
When i move the DataBases to the VMs any service that uses them like WoW/WebSItes/etc. will have to be taken off line to make sure no data is lost, i have done tests today and i can get all this done in about 2 hours.
When i get home form work tonight i will do some final tests and checks and if all goes will we will have 1-3 hours downtime over this weekend while i migrate all the services.
If the migration all goes well i can rip out all the old physical machines and stroe them away this will save my power bill ALOT and shud improve the services.
Once all the virtual stuff is up and running and the old stuff has been removed, i will add more storage space and add LOTS of fail overs, this means if 1 serevr crashs the fail over will take over so u guys wont have down time, lol not like we have much now our uptime is 99.8% hehe.
I cant wait for all this to be done so i can get my head stuck in the finishing of the 3.3.5 core, speaking of this MASSIVE thansk to azrael for doing massive ammounts of work on the new core, this has speeded things up big time.
After 3.3.5 i can start playing again, so see ya all soon in game :)
